Joan Kendall

Joan is a former teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing with a Masters Degree in Deaf Education. She worked in schools for the deaf in RI, Illinois and Massachusetts before moving to CT. In CT she worked for the Redding school system as a Teacher of the Deaf.  

After leaving a successful career in teaching, Joan began to pursue her love of art.  She has been painting in oil for the past ten years.  After starting in watercolor she took her first oil painting class at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, CT with an accomplished artist and teacher, Len Freas, and fell in love with the medium.

She began painting with Hal Frank, one of the teachers of the Famous Artists School in Westport, CT and continues to attend classes at the Silvermine School of Art with gifted and talented teachers .  She has taken workshops with well known realist and contemporary impressionist  painters both in the US and abroad. Among them are Dmitri Wright, Maggie Signer, Tish Adams and Jeanne McGuire.

Joan enjoys figurative work and currently paints in both oil and watercolor.

 She has traveled to France, Italy, Ireland, Portugal and New Zealand to study and gather material and ideas for her work.  She finds painting a never ending source of challenge, discovery and joy.
