Born and bred in Bushwick, Brooklyn, I am moved by the bleakness of New York City of the 70's with its haunting Black, White and Grays. I believe that most of my best work is in charcoal, stressing the lines, flaws, light and shadows of my environment. Even my bright acrylic work has definitive characteristics one might see in a sketch.
My influences are first and foremost, my grandfather and uncle. Both were accomplished artists who gave me the means and encouragement to express myself as well as being my worst critics. My inspiration comes from everywhere and everything around me.
Although primarily a portrait artist, I have recently had an obsession with nature expressing my voice in pencil, charcoal, water, oil and acrylic. The beauty of Connecticut has expanded my focus from solely portraits to include landscapes, seascapes and wildlife.
My involvement with equine rescues the past couple of years has influenced my latest collection. It has allowed me to see the beauty of horses and long ears as I have been drawn to capture their strength, gentleness, and striking grace.
Currently working on a series of paintings on animal rights focusing on horse slaughter and abandonment and abuse of domestic equines.
Frequently works are donated to local non-profit organizations in Connecticut such as Beech Brook Farm Equine Rescue and Connecticut Food Bank Always, a percentage of all works are given to local charities such as Darien Arts Center and Darien Library.
My professional experience began by freelance consulting to various individuals, groups and local non profit organizations in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
