Cameron Schmitz

As a professional artist and oil painter, my education and background as a figurative painter has shaped my unique language as an intuitive abstract painter. With a MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and BFA in Painting & Drawing from the University of New Hampshire, my passion for art and art-making has taken me across continents, including immersive studies in Art and Art History in Florence, Italy.

For 25 years I’ve been actively engaged in the practice of painting and exhibition of my work that has included painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography. My work has been featured in galleries, museums and institutions around the world that include Kyoto Seika University in Japan, Green Mountain College, the Fitchburg Art Museum, Emory University, Northern Arizona University Art Museum, and the Burlington Arts Center and the Burlington International Airport.

My original paintings and prints are included in the permanent collections of Jefferson Health (Philadelphia, PA), New York-Presbyterian Hospitals, the UVM Medical Center, (Burlington, VT), Lahey Medical Centers, (Burlington, MA) the Almoosa Specialist Hospital, (Saudi Arabia), Wells Fargo, (Greenwich, CT), the Greenfield Public Library, (Greenfield, MA) and more.

My original work is represented by galleries, art advisors, and consultants located in the United States that currently include Mitchell-Giddings Fine Arts (Brattleboro, VT), Carrie Coleman Fine Art, (Norfolk, VA) Boston Art Inc., (Boston, MA), The Art Partnership Inc., (Jenkintown, PA), and Libby Silvia Fine Art Consulting (Wellesley, MA).

Having formerly worked in the commercial art gallery business for several years as a curator, art consultant and gallery assistant, my breadth and depth of art experience as an artist, educator, and arts professional has provided me with an expansive knowledge and understanding of art and art-making, and the positive impact that art has on us people and the spaces in which we inhabit. I continue to remain committed to arts education as a teaching-artist and artist-mentor. I teach drawing and painting workshops to adults at various arts institutions as well as at my own studio in Greenfield, MA. I’m passionate about helping others develop their own voice and language through painting and demystifying abstract art to make it more accessible. Through my intuitive abstract painting workshops I open the door for others into a creative process that is exciting, inspirational and rich with meaning.
