Born in New York City, Torrance York has photographed the landscape throughout her career. She moved to New Canaan in 2005. Inspired by Waveny and Irwin Parks in New Canaan, she created her series, Common Ground.
York earned a BA from Yale and an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. In 2022 she published her monograph, Semaphore, with Kehrer Verlag and exhibited the series at Rick Wester Fine Art, NYC who represents her work. She has exhibited her photographs nationally and internationally. Collections including her work include the Addison Gallery of American Art and the Danforth Art Museum.
