While pursuing a BFA in ceramics more than 40 years ago, I began to dabble in printmaking. Pulling a print is much like unloading a kiln. There is always an element of surprise; some portion is beyond the artist’s control. Training as a horticulturist at the same time, it was only natural that I’d be drawn to organic shapes, forms and color. I explored seed pods, fruits and other “vessels” as inspiration for ceramic pots.My latest exploration of monoprinting, mixed media collage and photo montage draws upon these past experiences. In my present explorations I find that many of the colors, images, and forms from much earlier works are recurring. Like flowering weeds and old friends, they keep popping up. I relish the surprise.
